Phthalo Blue is a very strong, transparent, and intense synthetic blue pigment with a deep cyan or greenish-blue appearance. It is one of the most powerful modern painting blues, known for its high tinting strength and ability to create bright mixtures.
- Phthalo Blue is a synthetic organic pigment made from phthalocyanine compounds, introduced in the 20th century as a highly stable alternative to older blue pigments. It is valued by artists for its exceptional color intensity, transparency, durability, and versatility in mixing.
Phthalo Blue usually refers to two main variants:
- Phthalo Blue Green Shade (PB15:3): a slightly warmer, more cyan-leaning blue with a greenish undertone, commonly used for mixing vibrant greens and turquoise colors.
- Phthalo Blue Red Shade (PB15:6): a slightly cooler blue with a subtle violet bias, useful for creating deeper purples and cooler dark mixtures.
